| Iraan-Sheffield ISD is a Class A school system with an
average daily attendance of 500. Iraan and Sheffield are located on the
eastern edge of the Trans-Pecos region of West Texas near the historic Pecos
River. Both communities offer the scenic and peaceful "small town" lifestyle
with the benefits of city attractions only 80 miles away. During the boom
days of Iraan, V.T. Hamlin worked as a free-lance writer. It was here in
Iraan that he created the comic strip "Alley Oop". A park honoring his
cartoon characters is located in the city.
