big red band 2012

Code of Honor Band Calendar 2012 Band Spring Calendar

Dear student,

I am delighted to have been asked to become a part of your band program at ISISD. There is a rich history here, and you have had a very good director in Mr. Harris. I am looking forward to seeing what the band can do, and yet I understand that you will need time to get to know me. I hope to give you that opportunity next month as we get started. Before you get concerned about marching, let me assure you that I will show you some basic fundamental things you can do, which will help you understand that marching is not nearly as difficult as you may have heard. We are going to have fun, and you will find out that while I expect your best in rehearsal, I also understand the need for you to have a good time, and feel that the hard work is worth it. It is also important that we be able to take pride in our band program. Remember, this will be a big trip year, so all the hard work will come with a special reward.

I am working with the football coach, so our schedules will not interfere. We will spend most of our time on music, and when we do go outside, it will be in the later part of the evening.

August 6 3-5 PM August 7 7-8:30 PM August 9 7-8:30 PM

August 13 1-3 PM August 14 7-8:30 PM August 16 7-8:30 PM

We will try to schedule one practice the week before school as I like to give a surprise to my students at the end of the summer schedule. However, we will have to work that out later, as there is much on the schedule that week. Early rehearsals really help keep the beginning of the year less stressful.

If you need to contact me, my cell number is 806-252-2771. You can also call the office at 639-2512 x246. Leave me a voice mail if you miss me. My email is tboneman1234567@yahoo.com.

I would also like to offer you a special invitation to spend an evening with Ms. Bouquin and myself on July 23. We would like to take as many band students as possible to Odessa to see the DCI marching program. We would leave around 3:30 PM. We will eat dinner in Odessa (my treat), and head to Ratliff stadium for the show, which starts at 7 PM. We will get home around midnight. Please let me know as I need to purchase tickets. I think this would be a great way to show you how much fun marching can be. I know this is short notice, but I promise you will have fun.

Sincerely,

Stephen Martin
